- Hand washing.
- Prepare all the equipments.
- Countercheck medication card to the order of the doctor.
- Do your drug study. Knowing the 10 rights in administering medication.
- Calculate accurately the volume and strength of medication to be administer.
- Complete data in medication card.
- Get proper size of syringe and needle to be used.
- Place medication card, syringe and needle in hypodermic tray.
- Go to your patient, introduce self and give proper explanation.
- Privacy.
- Position client comfortably depending the site for injection.
- Expose only the injection site with adequate lightning.
- Cleanse the site with cotton balls with 70% alcohol in circular motion, from inner to outer.
- Place dry cotton ball between fingers of non-dominant hand.
- Remove needle guard carefully.
- Pinch muscle of injection site using the thumb and two fingers of non-dominant hand.
- Hold the syringe with the dominant hand between thumb and first three fingers.
- Quickly thrust the needle perpendicularly to the muscle at 90 degree angle.
- Release pressure of the nondominant hand.
- Aspirate and makes sure that you are not hitting the vessels or else withdraw syringe and locate another site.
- If none, inject the medication slowly.
- Remove the needle quickly.
- Apply pressure with cotton spongge over puncture site.
- Massage the area if not contraindicated.
- Do aftercare and dispose needle properly.
- Wash hands.
- Documentation.
