REMOVING THE TUBE

1. Explain procedure to the client & reassure that removal is less distressing than insertion

R: Minimizes anxiety and increases client’s cooperation

2. Clamp or kink the tubing securely and then pull the tube out steadily and smoothly while the client holds breath.

R: Clamping the tube prevents the contents from draining into the oropharynx

3. Clean nares and provide mouth care.

R: Promotes comfort

4. Wash hands

R: Reduce spread of microorganism

5. Document removal of NGT.
